Parents’ Auxiliary Scheduled Events Listed for 2007-2008

Parents’ Auxiliary meetings are held on the first Friday of the month from noon until 1 p.m. in Upper School Room 212. Stay abreast of events going on at school – hear from Parents’ Auxiliary committee chairs and administrators alike. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. Our meetings dates are listed below:

Two fundraisers will help support the efforts of the Parents’ Auxiliary and underwrite grants for faculty and staff development.

The Parents’ Auxiliary will also be offering three special workshops.

“What Happened to my Straight A Student?”
– 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20. A panel discussion featuring Sharon Long of the Centers for Youth and Families, Stacey Mahurin of the UALR Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology, and Dr. Mercer Neale, Head of School, examining the academic pressures/demands, organizational skills, social/emotional issues, learning styles/differences, etc., facing students as they transition to a college preparatory environment.

“It’s Not the Blues, Is It?” – 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 8. A presentation by Chris Rule, LCSW, of the UAMS Department of Psychiatry Division of Health Services , who is also on staff part-time at Episcopal Collegiate. This workshop will examine the warning signs for depression and anxiety, including a discussion of ways parents can become pro-actively engaged in dealing with the pressures their students face.

“NOT One for the Road” – 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16. A follow-up presentation by Chris Rule, focusing on alcohol and substance use and abuse.
