Episcopal Newspaper Receives All-Arkansas and Superior Awards at ASPA Competition

We are very proud of our Wildcat student journalists at the EpiscaTimes for receiving All-Arkansas and Superior for General Excellence in Print Newspaper at the annual Arkansas Scholastic Press Association competition.  EpiscaTimes editor Adanna Mogbo and her staff worked throughout the year to write, design, and produce the school paper and to share it with the ECS community.  Adanna submitted examples of the staff’s best work to ASPA in February, resulting in the paper’s Superior and All-Arkansas recognition for General Excellence, as well as several individual awards.

Individual awards for Excellent went to Lily Radtke for Editorial Writing and Elisa DeLorme for Editorial Cartoon.  Honorable Mentions went to Katherine Goodman for Sports News Writing, Sophie Reynolds for Feature Writing, and Lotanna Mogbo for Column Writing.

In addition to our mail-in awards, the EpiscaTimes staff received recognition for our participation in “On-Site” contests.  These contests were held virtually in April, with student journalists receiving prompts and instructions April 6.  Of our four staff members who participated, each Wildcat journalist placed in the statewide contest!  Lily Radtke received 3rd place in the state for her submission in Layout Design, Adanna Mogbo received 2nd place in the state for her Editorial Writing, Sophie Reynolds received 1st place in the state for her Feature Writing, and Grace Campbell received 1st place in the state for her Review Writing.

Editor Adanna Mogbo is finishing her second and final year as editor of the EpiscaTimes.  Under her leadership, the school paper submitted its first ever entries to ASPA last year— to receive All Arkansas one short year later is an impressive accomplishment indeed.  Advisor Simon Gooch and the EpiscaTimes staff wish to express their gratitude for Adanna’s hard work and leadership.  Gooch also thanks the staff for their hard work and the Episcopal Collegiate Community for their support and readership.
