The Stephens Scholars Program is available to students entering 9th-11th grades, and recognizes exemplary promise and leadership potential in new students.
Annually, two to four new students will be named Stephens Scholars and will receive an award equal to 25% to 100% of tuition. The awards are renewed annually as long as recipients remain in good standing with the school. The total amount of awards in a given year will be limited to the equivalent of two full tuitions.
Scholarship Process:
- To be considered for this scholarship, a student must be nominated by an adult (a non-relative and non-employee of the school) who can speak to the academic and leadership potential of the nominee. Once a student is nominated, the Episcopal Collegiate Admissions Office will contact them and request the application materials required to complete the scholarship application.
- Two letters supporting the student's nomination (in addition to the original nomination). An essay on a topic is assigned when the nomination is announced.
- In addition to the nomination, an application for admission to Episcopal Collegiate, along with the required supporting materials must be completed.
- A list of extra-curricular activities, academic awards, and other items demonstrating the quality of engagement and leadership.
- As required by the Arkansas Activities Association (AAA), which oversees interscholastic athletic competition in Arkansas, all individual families applying for the Stephens Scholars Program must go through the financial aid process.**
- Once all application requirements are received, applicants will be interviewed by members of the Episcopal Collegiate faculty.
Selection Criteria:
Stephens Scholars will be selected by a committee of faculty and administrators based on the following criteria as demonstrated through the application materials, recommendations, test scores, and interviews:
Demonstrated academic promise:
- A ranking that places the student in the top 10% of his/her class
- 90% cumulative average or GPA equivalent
- Top 10% in national testing
- Teacher recommendations that speak to academic excellence and leadership potential of the student
- Strong writing skills
Demonstrated leadership potential:
- Demonstrated initiative and/or motivation
- Meaningful engagement across multiple domains
- Effective communication skills
- Values consistent with those of Episcopal Collegiate School
NOMINATION FORM
**AAA requires that any non-public school provide verification that all students competing in athletics receive no more financial aid (merit or need-based) than is demonstrated. In order to protect confidentiality, Episcopal does not provide names to AAA, as they are reported by an identification number. Financial aid is granted to families on the basis of demonstrated need through the use of School and Student Serviced for Financial Aid (SSS). In using SSS, Episcopal follows the Principles of Good Practice outlined by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS):
