In college, no one is making you go to class or do your homework, but I had plenty of self-discipline to make sure I got my work done on time, even on road trips...I was my school's first academic all-American, and I graduated at the top of my business school."

Pursuing Excellence On and Off the Court

His dream of playing college sports along with his parents' high academic standards motivated Daron Hall '06 to strive for excellence.

"If our grades were bad, we did not play sports, so I had to make sure I kept As and Bs in the Hall Household. I've always wanted to make my parents proud, both on and off the court," Daron said.

As captain of the Varsity Boys Basketball Team in the program's early days, Daron helped pave the way for future success.

"My goals as a player and leader at [Episcopal Collegiate] were to help build a great basketball program and also to bring excitement to the games. My senior year, we had a team full of underclassmen, so it was my job to keep them on track and confident. In 2006, we were the first team to win a conference and district title. We were also runner-up in the region and the first team to make it to the state tournament."

His hard work and leadership translated into a scholarship to play basketball at Central Baptist College -- an experience Darion says was one of the best times in his life.

"[Episcopal Collegiate] really prepared me and showed me how to be a student athlete. During the season, we were gone and playing games at least four days [a week], so it was up to us to make sure we did not get behind. I was my school's first academic all-American, and I graduated at the top of my business school."

Many years later, you can still find Daron at our Annual Alumni Basketball Game -- but you won't find him on the court. Instead, you're more likely to find him catering the post-game celebration. A self-described food connoisseur, Daron says "food is in my blood," by way of his family's business, K.Hall and Sons. He enjoys cooking for people and traveling to different states and countries to try different cultures' foods.

As a marketing major and entrepreneur at heart, Daron works for Alcon Vision Care in medical device sales. This position came on the heels of a successful career in food distribution sales with Sysco. 

For fun and after a typical work day, you can find Daron and his two brothers, David and Devin '12, running their delicious food truck and catering business, HallBros2Go. 

"Sometimes I think I missed my calling by not going to culinary school, but I still feel I can cook with the best," Daron said. 

The Halls' "comfort food and soul food infused together" includes their award-winning Sweet Stella Spicy Wings. For their culinary creations, they were nominated and chosen as finalists for the Arkansas Food Hall of Fame in 2020. HallBros2Go cater events ranging from employee appreciation lunches to wedding receptions, and they're even a tailgating mainstay for the Episcopal Wildcats when we play at home. When he's not cooking, you'll find Daron judging local food competitions alongside the region's other top food experts and restauranteurs.

Of his dual careers, Daron says, "It's like have a set of twins that you can't get to sleep at the same time. I have been known to work seven days a week...but I wouldn't change it for the world."

Daron Hall holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Central Baptist College and a Masters degree in Sports Administration from Concordia University. He lives in Little Rock, Arkansas.
